Project start date : 03/09/2012
Beneficiary country : Nepal
About the project
Last updated in September 2023
Through the use of the Internet, pregnant women can register on demand. Through the use of a username and password, pregnant women can securely obtain information about pregnancy through audio, text and video content. This content is available on mobile phones. Amakomaya.com aims to inform and empower low-income pregnant women about pregnancy and childbirth and care during pregnancy, with a focus on maternal, newborn and child health.
Amakomaya addresses the health care scenario of pregnant women in rural settings by introducing videos of the changes of the foetus inside the body through an android application.
Rural women rarely have access or willingness to go for health check ups during their pregnancy. This application helps them understand the changes they are going to experience and the necessary care needed while emphasizing the need for routine doctor consult.
During the covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health and population (MoHP) of Nepal used the Amakomaya APP to track covid-19 cases using the app as an Information Management Unit (IMU) and to generate vaccination digital certificates. Moreover, using a maternal tracking system, to identify COVID-19 cases and tracking them, as well as to share results with local government and hospitals was an innovative idea.
