ehealth, at the heart of today's issues

Internet and mobile coverage has grown significantly in recent years as has the adoption of information and communications technology (ICT). The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) estimates growth of these at more than 1 billion users every 5 years. Between 2000 and 2020, the number of mobile subscriptions was multiplied by 90, reaching 944 million in Sub-Saharan Africa (83% of the population). At the same time, and despite significant progress in recent decades, inaccessibility to quality healthcare is still prevalent in most developing countries. The use of digital technology has the potential to accelerate access to quality healthcare by facilitating patient follow-up, training health professionals, and improving coverage of health services. Moving towards Universal Health Coverage, digital tools can support and promote the transformation of health systems.
