My Virtual Planning
Prevent unwanted pregnancies by educating young people about sexuality, and by facilitating access and effective use of modern contraceptives thanks to digital technology
Project start date : 14/05/2019
Beneficiary country : Congo (the Democratic Republic of the)
About the project
A team of pshyco-sexologists, gynecologists, lawyers, forensic scientists and sexual health counselors is made available to offer the following services:
Daily notifications developing a specific topic of sex education selected by the user;
Chat available 24/7 with counselors (peer educators) who answer users’ questions and direct them according to their problem to the gynecologist or psychosexologist;
Teleconsultations with a gynecologist who, if necessary, directs the user to a partner health center for medical intervention;
Teleconsultations with a psycho-sexologist for people with sexual disorders;
A virtual legal clinic assists victims of sexual harassment in schools and universities;
A conversational robot available offline in the mobile application helps young girls calculate their menstrual cycle.
All these are available through My Virtual Planning mobile app on Google Play Store.
My Virtual Planning offers specific advantages to its target audience:
Users do not see their interlocutors, which pushes them to open up more and express themselves without shame, which is rarely possible when they see the doctor in person;
Conversations are personalized, each person poses his or her own problem and receives specific answers, followed by long-term follow-up;
Thanks to MyViP, young people no longer need to travel to seek advice or walk long distances to find their medication, they can contact professionals in complete mobility thanks to their mobile phone and converse in real time, then know in less than 3 min the exact pharmacy where to go;
Tele-doctors are also young people, so they themselves are concerned by the subject (peer education);
Through the virtual legal clinic, victims of harassment can freely denounce their harasser without exposing themselves.
There is a high number of unwanted pregnancies linked to taboos on sexuality and problems of access to adequate contraception. These unwanted pregnancies, most of which are early, have as their main effect a high morbidity rate among young girls. They also very regularly lead to difficulties in family cohesion and thus in socio-professional integration.
My Virtual Planning advises young people to adopt responsible sexual behaviour in order to avoid unwanted pregnancies and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. My Virtual Planning informs young people about sexuality in general, including sexual and reproductive health, mutual respect, consent and contraceptive methods, through their mobile phones, whether or not they are connected to the Internet. Their main communication channels are their Facebook page and their mobile application.
