Malaria Case mRegister for General Practitioners

About the project

The Malaria Case mRegister for General Practitioners is designed to capture malaria examined and confirmed cases from the general practitioners (as the part of private sector). Collecting malaria cases from private sector is a step forward to see the full landscape of malaria epidemiology in the country. This application, for collecting the necessary patient information, is built in a user-friendly platform using ODK Collect in Android devices.

Myanmar has been targeting an ambitious objective to eliminate malaria by 2030. The country and malaria partners invest their efforts on strengthening malaria control and elimination activities. The gap of data inclusion from private sector such as general practitioners and polyclinics to the national figure for malaria in Myanmar, results in an incomplete landscape of malaria epidemiology and interferes with malaria elimination plan.

The initiative has been piloted to be interconnected with the national malaria surveillance system as a module of data collection targeted for general practitioners, polyclinics and other malaria service providers. This mobile tool contributes to a dynamic data collection from different sources supporting the National Malaria Surveillance system. And also, using an open-source data collection platform (Open Data Kit) will enable the national programme to sustain the tool where there are few resources available.
