M@SAN: using the SMS as a prevention tool in rural Burkina Faso
The Observatory generates reports from its field missions, in order to provide additional information, testimonies and pictures on the actual operation of pre-selected initiatives. Although field reports provide certain facts for assessment, the site’s purpose is to report the existence of the projects concerned, rather than auditing them.
The MOS@N initiative was developed to improve healthcare coverage for pregnant women, infants and persons with HIV through the use of mobile phones in rural areas, ensuring better access to care in the Nouna health district in Burkina Faso. After the first 24 months of operation, the results are encouraging, with an increase in immunisation coverage, screenings, and a decreased contact drop-out rate.
